Industry leaders, academia, healthcare practitioners, policymakers, and government authorities are coming together to foster innovation in Indian medical devices sector. This center of excellence for medical devices at the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi is going to be one of a kind. Medical devices and equipment are going to be produced under one roof at this center of excellence (COE). India’s first medical device COE at IIT (BHU) is aimed at boosting the Indian medical device manufacturing industry.

The IIT (BHU) medical devices center of excellence is going to be established in collaboration with Institute of Medical Sciences. Various investors have committed to financially support this initiative. The Pharmaceutical Department, Biochemical Engineering Department, and Medical Department will be jointly working to develop cutting-edge devices. Approximately 900 faculty members will be involved in this project who will be recruited over a period of 3 years.

Electronic chip design and 6G communication development are among the various achievements of this premier institute. Thus, the medical devices COE will add another feather to IIT (BHU)’s cap of achievements. The medical devices COE project outline is currently being finalized and will be implemented soon. No similar center dedicated solely to the production of medical devices in India exists. By exploiting the strengths of the university, IIT (BHU)’s medical devices center of excellence will lead to groundbreaking developments. This COE dedicated to medical devices will foster a conducive environment for R&D in the medical devices sector.
